Lulworth gathering
steve levett showing off his "woodmiser" portable saw mill

11 members met at the Weld Arms car park in East Lulworth and we were joined by Steve Levett our host for the morning and Manager of the sawmill, which is part of the Lulworth estate owned by the “Weld” family. We shared cars and followed Steve a couple of miles to the yard which turned out to be a very old barn at the end of a narrow country track and it was surrounded by timber, tree trunks of all species and shapes and sizes all planked and seasoning.

Steve had his woodmiser set up and he demonstrated the planking of some very awkward lumps of timber, some of which we found and presented to him as a challenge. We were free to wander around and pick up what we wanted and Steve was very reasonable with his prices often giving bits away.

The morning was rounded off with Steve carving a large owl using his special chainsaw, time ran out on us and we left for our pre-booked meal at the Wled Arms. A brilliant day out I wish it could have lasted longer. I’m sure we will see Steve again.

if anyone needs timber give him a ring at "Weldspray" 07766 112724 - or vist his website
